Surf's Up, Assumption!

This year, Assumption girls brought out our flip-flops, umbrella hats, and leis from the closet to walk for a good cause, fundraising $56,583 for financial aid. This allows us to provide financial assistance to many more students that otherwise wouldn't be able to afford this great education and second home. I am so proud to consider some of these girls my very best friends.

The Walk was kicked off to a great start during the awesome pep rally, which really got us all pumped up to accomplish the 3.2 miles. After exciting $100 prize drawings and the announcement of the best fundraiser or "Big Kahuna," Lauren Loehnert, we were ready to start walking. Per tradition, Steve Buttleman bugled the "Call to the Post" and set us off to the races just like at the Kentucky Derby each year.

After the exhausting journey, girls dragged themselves down to the cafeteria to enjoy nachos and other snacks. Everyone felt the sense of community and also had a great time. I would definitely say The Assumption Walk, "Surf's Up," was a tremendous success for both financial aid recipients and the community as a whole. It makes me so proud to call Assumption my home. Events like these truly brings out the best in my fellow classmates and friends.

Rocket Spectacular

Rocket Spectacular this year was out of this world! The space decorations looked amazing and really made it feel as though we were heading into outer space instead of the gym. It was great to see how much the community cares for Assumption and to know that the money raised goes to help girls around the community afford the tuition so that they can be part of this amazing AHS community.

Ash Wednesday

The Ash Wednesday prayer service was really inspiring this year. The speaker, Sr. Marilyn, RSM, was truly inspiring in her talk about how God is present in our lives and her work with Mercy Beyond Borders. MBB is an organization that helps women and children better their lives in souther Sudan. Also hearing Sr. Prisca talk about her time as principal of AHS reminded me of the origins of the school and the religion that brings us all together.

The Ash Wednesday prayer service this year was really special. We got the opportunity to listen to Sr. Marilyn Lacey, one of the founders of Mercy Beyond Borders. She had some really interesting stories to tell us, and she told us why we should not be gloomy during Lent. It was really great to get to listen to her talk and remind us of what Lent is really about.

Mission Week

Mission Week was great this year. My favorite parts were the job shadow experience that had and the opportunity to go on a college visit. I job shadowed a cardiologist and was able to truly see what he does and whether or not I like it. My college visit was amazing as well. I went to Georgetown and UK and found that I like smaller schools better. Mission Week brought to light issues in our community and how we can attempt to fix them. I loved Mission Week this year and can't wait until next year's comes around!

Mission Week is one of my favorite weeks ever since freshman year, and this year was definitely no exception! On Monday the whole school listened to Anna Scally who is an inspirational speaker and the official DJ for the Vatican. She gave a very good presentation. The rest of the day girls went to Mercy & Values sessions about everything from kayaking to dream interpretation to cup cake decorating. The school also was given the opportunity to watch the winter BLOOM Theatre Project production Patterns We Create. The week really was amazing - one group of seniors went on Assumption's first international mission trip to Jamaica! Freshmen went on field trips, sophomores performed ACTS service, and juniors zumba danced and went on job shadows and college visits. What a week!

Mission Week for juniors is full of tons of excitement. On Monday we participated in our Mission & Values sessions. On Tuesday and Wednesday we were able to conduct our job shadow. This allowed us to really get a feel for a job that we are interested in. Wednesday we got to zumba and learn all about diversity. On Thursday we could go on a college visit to begin preparing for senior year. It was a very exciting week!

Last week Assumption celebrated the annual Mission Week. I had been able to participate in it as a freshman but this year was a totally different experience as a sophomore. On Monday we heard a speaker and went to different Mission & Values sessions. I went to one called Exercise for Couch Potatoes and learned some moves to do in front of the TV. I also got the chance to see the amazing BLOOM Theatre Project, Patterns We Create. On Tuesday I took a practice ACT test and learned some basic self defense moves. Then on Wednesday and Thursday all sophomores went out to their ACTS agencies to perform service. Last week was so great and I love that it will change each year as I go through my years at AHS!

BLOOM Theatre Project

This year's BLOOM theatre Project show was really great! The show titled, Patterns We Create, was a collaborative effort of Assumption students, faculty, staff, and alumnae comprised of music, acting, video, and more. I was part of the set crew for the show and helped to create the backdrop. I had such a great time working on the show and then getting to see the finished product at the performance. I loved getting to be part of this great show!

For a long time I have been interested in theatre, and I recently got involved in set crew for the winter production of Patterns We Create. Working on tech was a really amazing experience and I am continuing to do so for more plays. The energy, talent, and welcoming people in the theatre department are incredible. I loved how many different people came together to put on this show. Students, faculty, and alumnae all came together to make this performance a truly great production about the issues women face in our world today.

Spirit Week

Everyone has been so spirited this past week! Each day from January 24-28, students dressed up in different attire. Some of the themes were Glitter Day, Decades Day, and Class Color Day. I was looking forward to dressing up as a "dude" on Wednesday, but I also enjoyed the unexpected snow day!
A perfect end to Spirit Week was the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, January 29. The theme of the dance was the Oscars. Many students dressed up like their favorite celebrities. The infamous Snooki, Barbie, Michael Jackson, and many other celebrities made appearances at the dance. We had a new DJ so the music was great! It was also a lot of fun because a few of us have girls staying with us for 5 weeks from Argentina! They enjoyed the experience. I would definitely say that the dance was a success!

Spirit Week at Assumption was January 24-28. It consisted of having a different theme every day. Spirit Week also allowed us to do spirit chains and hall decorating. The juniors won hall decorating by decorating the halls in yellow! The seniors won the spirit chains this year. The theme days were glitter day, dude day, and decades day. It was a fun week that was well put together. everyone had a lot of fun showing off their school spirit!

I absolutely loved Spirit Week! It is one of my favorite weeks all year. This year we had glitter day, dude day, decades day, and class color day as part of Spirit Week. Decades Day was definitely my favorite because the juniors dressed like we were from the 80s and we all looked realyl funny. I love Spirit Week because it isn't just a week that helps you to express the spirit of Assumption, it also brings classes together, allows everyone to goof off a little (or a lot!), and it is really just a ton of fun!

Pep Rally

The winter sports pep rally was amazing this year. It was great to see the cheerleaders and the JV and Varsity dance teams perform. They were awesome! It was also so exciting to see everyone's class spirit through spirit chains and hall decorating. And to top everything off, the fly girls dance routine was the best yet. I can't wait for this pep rally to come next year; it is definitely one of my favorite ones ever!

The winter sports pep rally was on Friday, January 8. It was a lot of fun and a chance for the whole school to get together. We recognized our outstanding sports teams and gave thanks to the seniors. We cheered and discovered the outcome of hall decorating and spirit chains. It was just a fun time for everyone. Most students look forward to this pep rally every year, knowing it's one of our biggest following Spirit Week each year.

Okay, so I can honestly say that the winter pep rally is my favorite pep rally every single year! This year might have been the best one of my three years at Assumption...over 60 seniors spent the night at school the night before to learn the sly girls routine. Their dance was awesome! Junior won the hall decorating and that was so exciting because our class has never won before. All in all, it was a great pep rally!

AHS vs. SHA Basketball Game

The Assumption basketball team played one of its biggest games of the year on Sunday, January 16. Not only was it against one of the best teams in the state, but it was also our biggest rival, Sacred Heart.
The JV team ended with a loss to SHA in a hard-fought battle that came down to the wire. The Varsity game was played in a very loud and upbeat atmosphere with fans filling both sides of the stands from the respective schools. The Rocket cheering section was led by some seniors and had a great turnout. The Rockets played really well in a very physical game, but couldn't quite pull it out.
This isn't the last time the two teams will match up though, possibly meeting again in the LIT tournament and in the regional tournament.
Other exciting festivities coincided with this game, including the volleyball team receiving their state rings at halftime, followed by a performance by the dance team. The spirit was alive both on and off the court, and it won't be the last time we see this Rocket pride!

Capital Prize Kickoff

The Capital Prize Kickoff this year was great - especially the performances by Kesha and Lady Gaga. They made the presentation really exciting and motivated everyone to go out and sell capital prize tickets to help with financial aid for current and future AHS students.

Tri-M Talent Show

The Tri-M talent show is a really cool show where students can audition and display their super cool talents. One girl played guitar and sang an original song and another girl tap danced. Others sang, played piano, and the AHS Step Team performed. It was really cool to see friends share talents that I didn't know they had. Plus, all the money raised from the show went to supporting the school that students built in Cambodia. It was a really fun night for a really great cause.

High School Placement Test

This past Saturday was the High School Placement Test. It was so cool to see yet another class of Rockets come in those doors. They were so excited about their new school and ready to be student here. Of course some were nervous, but I could tell that it's going to be an awesome group. Wow - the class of 2015! Winter Art Show

The art show was amazing this year! It was great to see all of the talent that the girls here have. Everything from the bugs made out of recycled soft drink cans to the pastel flowers were beautiful and showed me that AHS really has something for everyone.

Immaculate Conception Mass

The Immaculate Conception Mass was a great time for us to come together as a school. It was really nice to see my classmates reading and singing so well. We got the chance to reflect on the story of Mary and how she is a role model for us in our everyday lives. The Immaculate Conception Mass was a wonderful chance for the whole Assumption community to be together in prayer.

The Immaculate Conception Mass was really a beautiful liturgy. I loved watching my friends sing and read for the mass. I was very excited that I was able to carry up the gifts during mass. It was great to examine how the story of the Immaculate Conception connects to our daily lives. Teachers and students alike provided excellent points for reflection.

Thanksgiving Prayer Service

The Thanksgiving prayer service is always one of my favorite prayer services. The week before Thanksgiving every Assumption student writes a thank you letter to people in their life who they truly appreciate. Each year some students read their letters at the prayer service. I always tear up a little at how moving the letters are. The prayer service makes me truly appreciate Assumption High School and all of the people who make up the community of Assumption.

Fall Sports Banquet

There was a lot of celebrating at our fall sports banquet this year. Volleyball won the state title and so did cross country. The field hockey team was the state runner-up and the golf and soccer teams also both had great seasons. The celebration was very nice. Awards were given to scholar athletes and to girls who embody the qualities of good sportsmanship.

All-School Dance

The all-school dance this year was amazing. There was a huge Eiffel Tower set up in the gym and almost a thousand people came to the dance. It was very exciting and I think everyone had a lot of fun!

Cross Country State Meet

The cross country state meet was amazing! There were girls painted up running around screaming encouragement at the girls who were running. And although we won state, the moment that touched me the most was seeing everyone huddle around a hurt girl from the team. Seeing the entire team stand there and wait for the news that she was going to be okay was one of the most touching moments that I have ever witnessed. The state title is great, but the way the team cares for one another and acts as one means so much more.

Canstruction 2010

Canstruction was really great this year. We all got together with our homerooms and our families to make structures out of the cans we brought in for Dare to Care. My homeroom made Spngebob! It was really cool because we all got the chance to work together. It was a fun way to help Dare to Care and be creative with our families at the same time.

Fiddler on the Roof

Fiddler on the Roof was an AWESOME show. Many of my friends are in the show, or are techies, so I knew many parts of the show, but it went well beyond my expectations. I was spell-bound, and left thinking that Doug Sumey, our theatre director was a genius. I can't wait to see the show again and again!!

Kickin' off Canstruction

Canstruction kickoff was a great way to introduce why we need to collect cans for Dare to Care. It really put an emphasis on the importance of what Dare to Care does and how much it depends on Assumption for cans. I also loved seeing the girls do the can-can relay. I laughed so hard at everyone!

Last Tuesday was Assumption's annual Canstruction kick-off. As always, the assembly was so much fun - but it also got pretty crazy. Girls doing the can-can with cans? Not exactly something you see everyday! The assembly was great because it got all the families pumped up and ready to bring in those cans. Not only do we want to win, but we also all see the importance of this event. The cans will be donated to Dare to Care and we have a history of bringing some of the biggest donations. It's great to have something like Canstruction to be able to help people and have a blast at the same time!

Fall Break

Fall Break is a time you can spend with your family or friends. This fall break my family went to Gatlinburg, Tennesse and my Danish exchange student, Michelle Dahl Pedersen, came along with us. We got to know Michelle better throughout the trip. We ate at many different restaurants. We also saw the new Titanic exhibit. At night we would walk along the streets and look at the different shops with our carmel apples in hand. We loved to ride go karts and race each other. It was a very eventful fall break and one that I will always remember.

It was so wonderful to have a few days off from school. October is the month when everything gets busy, so it was nice to have a few days to catch my breath. On my days off, I was crazy busy. My sister, an AHS alum, was home for the weekend from college. It was so fun to catch up and visit with her. Next, my youth group went on retreat this weekend. We spent time bonding over bible study/worship, ultimate frisbee, adventure activities like high ropes, star-gazing, and much more. It was awesome to spend time out in nature with a few AHS friends, as well as others. To conclude the weekend, my mom and I attended the Rand Paul & Jack Conway Senatorial debate. It was so cool to be at a live televised event, experiencing history in the making. Even though I can't vote, I learned so much about today's issues. It was a great evening! Fall break was a BLAST, but it's great to be back at school.

A Visit to St. Vincent de Paul

Students in five of teacher Angela Lincoln's social justice classes recently toured the St. Vincent de Paul campus, including the Ozanam Inn men's homeless shelter and St. Jude Women's Recovery Center. A few of the students were invited to blog about their impressions.

St. Vincent de Paul was truly eye-opening for me. It's one of those experiences that doesn't come around everyday, and I'm very grateful to have been able to go there and witness homelessness firsthand.
There were many things that affected me, but perhaps most prominent in my mind is listening to our speaker share her story. In my family, we have a cousin who struggles with heavy addiction and it was refreshing to know that there are services out there that are more than willing to help whoever they can.
I'm grateful to have such a wonderful service center in our city that is fighting to help relieve homelessness, especially in this economic decline. Finally, I'm more than honored that the people there were willing to share their personal stories, which led me to be very impressed by their faculty, staff, and clients.

Fall Pep Rally

The fall sports pep rally was a high energy celebration of the wonderful things Assumption's sports teams are achieving. We were able to learn a little about each team while getting pumped up about there upcoming games/matches/meets. The whole school was taught cheers that we can use when we go support our fellow Rockets. We also got the privilege to see the dance team perform - this was exciting and a lot of fun! Overall, the pep rally was a success and enjoyed by the Assumption community.

12:30 Dismissals

At Assumption, one of my favorite things is the 12:30 dismissal days that occur on Tuesdays about once a month. They are great because they offer so many opportunities to do other things. You can catch up on homework, hang out with friends, or get some extra sleep. :) This past 12:30 day, I walked down to Buckhead's with some friends and it was awesome having such a relaxing afternoon. Plus, I still had time afterwards to get all of my homework done and have time to watch my Tuesday night shows. 12:30 days add a much needed break to a hectic school week!

SleepWalk 2010

The 2010 Walk theme was SleepWalk. Girls dressed up in their footy pajamas and hair curlers and they prepared to get their walk on! The Walk was a blast - all the girls were dressed up and so were the teachers. It was fun to just see everyone's spirit. We raised a record-setting amount of more than $57,000 - we did an amazing job and so did our top seller. She raised $1,000 dollars - how wonderful! We came together as a community and helped so many girls. Assumption did a great job this year and the theme was fun, too!

Green Dot Initiative

On Tuesday, September 28th, the whole school gathered in the gym to listen to a guest speaker from the Center for Women and Families, Amanda Houpt. Students were extremely interested and intrigued as they learned about a new program called Green Dot. The Mary Byron Project introduced the speaker and sponsors the program because they believe it is time for more students to get involved in putting an end to power-based personal violence. The Green Dot Program gives students a chance to do additional training at Assumption with Amanda and learn how to be a bystander that knows how to react in situations where violence is occuring. Students seemed eager to learn more after attending the assembly. The Mary Byron Project closed the assembly by introducing an event they are working on called Walk A Mile in Her Shoes in which they are partnering with St. X and Trinity to have high school boys walking in high heels to advocate against teen dating violence. Together, these two programs provide the education and opportunity to make Assumption a leading school in violence prevention and awareness.

Family Foundations Week

The competition to see who had the most Family pride and fever was conducted the week of September 21-25. The week began with students decorating their Family suites, or the group of rooms that Family "lives" in. Several students from each grade make up a single Family. There are nine Families at Assumption, representing nine foundations Catherine McAuley founded in Ireland. On Thursday, September 23rd, students sported accessories in their Family color accompanying their uniform. The spirit was prevelant as everyone prepared for Family festivities the next day.

On Friday, September 24th, Mercy Day, students enjoyed spending time with students in their Families and participating in various activities as they celebrated and honored Catherine McAuley's work. The day began with a Mercy Day prayer service in which sophomore Kelsey Kaiser, junior Mary-Kate Smith, and senior Catherine Palmer-Ball, as well as faculty and staff, were honored as Models of Mercy for their outstanding exemplification of our Mercy values. After the prayer service, students returned to homerooms to write letters to Mercy sister schools across the country. My particular family, Kingstown, wrote a letter to a Mercy school in Virginia in which we all signed our names on the Smart Board.

Saving the best for last, the week wrapped up with an all-school Family competition in the gym by putting a twist on the series "The Bachelor." Representative teachers and students from each family competed in a relay race consisting of putting on dresses in their family color, ribbons in their hair, and waltzing with a teacher across the gym floor. Amy Vanover, Logan Higgins, and Tylisha Mitchell were the three finalists who had to explain to Catherine McAuley how their foundation spread her mission. Amy Vanover ended up winning the competition for her Family, of course with her Family supporting her and cheering for her the whole time. She even received a rose from one of our teachers and got her picture taken. It was a great week for students to come together as a community and prove why their family was the one to beat.

Freshman Parent Mass

The Freshman Parent Mass is a great way to get more connected with your parents. You go to mass with your parents and then there are refreshments afterward. My parents and I had a great time connecting together that night.

Reunion Weekend

Friday was Reunion Weekend for the classes of 1960, 1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, and 2005. It was so cool to see all of the alums reconnecting with their AHS friends! Some of the current students dressed up in old uniforms. It was so interesting to see how the uniform has changed over the years! There were lots of tables with memorabilia from all the different years. It was so fun looking at all the old programs, handbooks, and yearbooks. We even found pictures of some of our teachers when they went to AHS! It was great to see all of the classes reconnecting and to hear them tell stories about what high school was like for them. Now I'm really excited to go to my reunions!

Grandmother Tree

My Feminine Spirituality class has been amazing so far. I love all the activities, but the one that I've liked best so far is when we got to visit Grandmother Tree in Cherokee Park because during the activity I got the chance to sit in plain nature, feeling the nice breeze while thinking about all of the amazing things that God has given us. Plus, that is also doing something out of the ordinary because not everyone gets the chance to relax in a nature atmosphere. Maybe people are working or maybe they are always busy at home, but I definitely got something out of this experience - to go out more and enjoy life. I don't mean enjoy life, as in having fun with friends and going out to restaurants or anything like that, but I mean enjoying everything that we have around us, and absorbing the beauty of our world. Some people don't really realize how beautiful it is and the masterpiece that God has given us to live in. It was an awesome experience, and I cant wait to go another day on my own time to be able to enjoy nature once more.

The Feminine Spirituality classes had the opportunity to go on a little field trip to Cherokee Park. We first enjoyed a picnic lunch in the shade and then hiked a small trail to visit the "Grandmother Tree." Despite the fact that the tree fell in the ice storm two years ago, what was left of it was still very grand. All the carvings and painting on the trunk and branches showed that we were just one of many groups to come into the woods to this very spot. We all climbed onto the large trunk that lay on the ground and just sat there in silence, soaking in the beauty of nature that surrounded us. It was a very peaceful and relaxing experience, and it made me want to go into nature even more.

My Femine Spirtuality class went on a field trip to Grandmother Tree. I didn't quite know what that exactly meant. I wasn't sure if it was just a really old tree, or actually had something to do with Mrs. Davis. When we got there I realized how old she really was. She had graffiti all over her and was lying on the ground. When the big ice storm hit, she had fallen over. My friends and I climbed on her limbs and listened to nature. It was such an amazing experience to be so connected to nature. I hope that more people hear about Grandmother Tree and go visit her every once and a while.

The Walk for AHS

The Walk Kick-Off Assembly was so exciting! The whole school got together to find out what this year's walk theme would be. Everyone got to sit with their class and get really pumped up. All the teachers were wearing pajamas! We heard all about the financial aid program and why the Walk is so important. Then, the teachers put on a really funny skit, pretending to be at a sleepover the night before the Walk. We found out that the theme is SleepWalk! I am so excited to start collecting pledges for this year's walk. My goal is to raise $100 for financial aid! I know that this year's walk is going to be a blast!

Club Fair 2010

The Club Fair Wednesday was really fun! All of the clubs and organizations had a display board and representatives to tell the students what their club is about. The whole gym was full of poster boards with all the info on all the clubs at AHS. Everyone in the school came to check it out at some point during the period. All the students got to see what they might be interested in getting involved with this year. I got to see a lot of clubs that I didn't even know Assumption had, like Asian Culture Club and Future Problem Solving. The Club Fair was a really cool way to see what AHS has to offer! -Tricia D.

Mock Schedule Night

Mock schedule night is a time when our parents can go to each of our classes and meet our teachers. It enables them to see what we've been up to thus far, as well as what we'll be doing in the future. The parents go to our classes for 15 minutes each with 5 minutes passing in between. Numerous parents stopped me and asked, "How in the world do you make it across the building in just 5 minutes?!" I said, "It takes practice and good timing." :) But the most frequently asked question of the night was, "Where is the C building (CAC)? I've walked this hallway 6 times already!" Yes, it can be intimidating, and maybe a bit difficult to navigate a new place at first, but there is always someone here to help you if you're lost.
The school was PACKED! So many enthusiastic parents participated in this year's event. During the study block, parents could go mingle with each other in the cafeteria, while enjoying lemonade and cookies. Also in the cafeteria were organizations to help parents get involved with Assumption (Volunteers In Partnership, Rocket Parent Network, etc). The dance team was also there having a fundraiser to raise money to go to nationals.
Spirits were high, and the energy was contagious. Everyone was so excited about what's happening in our school. I can tell it's going to be a great year!! :)

Retail Sales Field Trip

Last Tuesday, my retail sales class and I took a mini field trip up to the Rite Aid at the Gardiner Lane Shopping Center. Retail Sales is basically a class where you learn all about the retail business and even how run your own retail establishment in the future. We took a trip to Rite Aid to look at all of their different products and analyze the prices. We had to figure out discounts. We also compared products to see whether the bigger version was a better buy than the smaller version. It was funny because so many curious shoppers wanted to know why Rite Aid was the spot we chose for a field trip. I guess it is kind of a unique spot to pick. Anyway, I'm looking forward to some more great field trips in this class. Our teacher promised us that they'd be happening frequently. That was pretty exciting to hear. :)

Apple Tournament

The Apple tournament was so much fun this year. I am on Assumption's varsity field hockey team, and I really enjoyed playing in these games. It was great to have the support of my classmates and teachers at the games. All the teams played hard, and we really enjoyed participating in the tournament. I am really excited about this upcoming season. I love all of my teammates, and I really think that we can come together and play some great rocket hockey this year. Thanks to everyone who came and supported our team! It means so much!

The opening prayer service today (8-12) was a great way to start off the school year. The entire school got to bond and be together, and I think that this really shows that no matter what, we will all be together. I love how each of the classes was individually addressed by their class representatives. It really got me thinking about what I can do to make this year even better. There are so many new things happening, and the new theme, 'Why not?' shows everyone that it's ok to try something new. I truly believe that after everyone gave their speeches today, every single person was thinking about how they can make not only their year better, but everyone else's as well. I know that this year is going to be amazing, and the prayer service was a great way to start it off!

Pink & White Game

On Thursday April 29th, the halls of Assumption were filled with school spirit. Friends finalized plans for the evening as the whole school prepared for the third annual Pink and White Flag Football Game that evening. The game was hosted at St. Xavier High School, and although we didn't win in the end, the Assumption Rockets didn't make it easy for the Sacred Heart Valkyries. Assumption showed the community what it means to have school spirit. From cookouts to car paint, classmates came together to cheer, yell, and raise money for a good cause. We truly were the Rocket Nation. Four schools, two rivalries, one cause. Everyone wins.

AHS choirs go to Disney

Every other year, Assumption's Chamber Choir, Advanced Choir, and Bell Choir make their way down to Walt Disney World for the Festival Disney Music Competition. This year, we not only showed up ready to compete, but stood out among the rest. With superior ratings - silver, gold, and best in class Mickeys - Assumption dominated the competition! After countless hours riding rides, eating Mickey-shaped food, and taking pictures with the princesses, we now have memories that will last us a lifetime! What's better than 3 days in Disney World with awesome teachers and 60 girls who love music just as much as you do? Not much else. :)

Family Cramily in the fall was AMAZING! It was so neat to see all the families sporting their colors! Of course Carlow was the best with their signs, foam finger, and each letter of Carlow attached to girls' shirts! It looked amazing. The energy in the gym was exciting and it was funny watching people participate in the events. It was so much fun, and as a family rep it was good to see how well everything turned out. ~Kelsey

At the Family Cramily event in the fall, the theme was AHS's version of a Harry Potter Tournament. We had quick change and over/under activities within our families and then with the whole school. The whole event was really fun, and every family showed spirit and support for their team. Even though my family didn't win, I still had a good time cheering for Tullamore. The teams for my family did pretty well overall, though I am sad we didn't win the Panera breakfast. We earned a pretty good number of points which is awesome! Hopefully we will get more points at other activities and win the overall house cup. :) Jaclyn

I love my senior sweat shirt because it's a tradition and senior privilege to wear a sweat shirt. The senior sweat shirts have always been the same since I can remember. Also it brings out the spirit in the class even more. I love my class and I love how excited we are for our last year at AHS. It's really sad to think this time next year we won't be here, our home away from home.

One thing I LOVE about Assumption is the spirit that our school has. Before I went here, I noticed how spirited and up-beat everyone always was at this school. No matter if it is dress up days, pep rallies, or family cramily, we are always having a blast at school. I especially enjoy the dress up days because it allows me to show my personality and get pictures with my friends that will last forever.

The cafeteria at Assumption is one of my favorite places in the entire school. I love coming in early in the mornings so that I can go to the cafeteria and hang out with all of my friends. I also love the atmosphere in the cafeteria during lunch because it is so upbeat yet relaxed. During study it is very calm and quiet, so I have no trouble focusing. I love that when I am in the cafeteria, I can be with my friends, be myself, and have a great time, which is what Assumption is all about. ~Jennifer D.

What a great Walk Kick-Off Assembly it was this year and a great theme - Walkin’ in the Wild Wild West! It is going to be so much fun to dress up for the Walk! There will be a bunch of cowgirls walking around for such a great cause. A big hit was the incentive we could receive for raising $50,000 - being able to dress up for Halloween at school. The skits were great too, especially when the male Can-Can dancers came out. Altogether it was a big hit and great time too!

Club fair is something I look forward to at the beginning of the school year. Being involved in clubs means a lot to me, and I can tell by the excitement of everyone else there that they enjoy them too. Coming to Assumption, I didn't realize there would be so many different ones to choose from with a variety that makes us stand out from other schools. At this fair, there are academic clubs, sports clubs, and ones just for fun. I enjoy all of them! I try to get involved in as many different ones as I can. Seeing all of the boards decorated and everyone eager to hear about them makes me even more excited for all the meetings to kick-off. Club fair is a good place to recognize all the opportunites Assumption has for us, and I definitely have realized that over the past couple years going here!

I had SOOOO much fun on Senior Strut day! My homeroom had "Penelope Pig," our senior mascot, and a few girls decided to tie her to me. She added to my outfit and drew LOTS of attention! I liked the theme being a PINK OUT, because we don't have our senior sweatshirts yet and it gave us a chance to make our presence known as seniors. I'm super excited about our next senior strut!!

This year's senior class is the biggest class to ever go through AHS. Since we are the Class of 2010, and since we are so big, we call ourselves "The Big 10." It was one of my senior dreams to have more spirit and more senior attendence at different events around AHS, so we started a senior student section: "The Big 10 Pig Pen." We have a white picket fence with pink and brown paint splatters that we are taking to all of our "Pig Pen Events." We also have barrels of hay that we will take to some games as well.
The AHS vs. SHA field hockey game (in the Apple Tournament) was our first "Pig Pen Event" of the year. It was a PINK OUT and it was a HUGE success. It was supposed to rain the night of the game, so our turn out was not as big as we expected, but it was still amazing! We had so much fun and we were all really loud and really supportive of the field hockey Rockets. Everyone really came together to make it a great night and a great experience.
We hope the "Pig Pen" keeps its attendance and spirits up, and we hope it even increases!

Taking a Break...

Spring Break has come and gone, but summer is just around the corner! Here's what a few of our girls did during their week off...

To start off my spring break, I played a softball tournament in Bowling Green. Our AHS softball team played amazing the first game! We won 1-0. After our win, we went out to eat as a team. That was really fun and relaxing! Once we got back to the field for our second game, a tornado came so the whole tournament was canceled. Once we got home, I spent the rest of my break relaxing and babysitting my cousin Leah. We have matching AHS shirts, so on Tuesday we spent all day in them together!

I went to Red River Gorge. After we packed up and were ready to leave, we couldn't get the car to back up. It turns out that the transmission went bad so we had to get towed. We spent four hours at a gas station in Mt. Sterling, KY waiting to be picked up. Other than that it was pretty awesome - we went canoeing, hiking, and even super-glued a shoe to the floor. :)

Well this year my Spring break was for the most part uneventful, but it did have its highlights. I saw Slumdog Millionaire, which was one of the best movies I've seen in awhile. I also saw I Love You Man, a comedy that recently came out. I had several money making opportunities, including house sitting and babysitting, which I definitely took advantage of because I was low on cash =] . I took the ACT on the second Saturday of Spring break, which is always a treat. And for the most part, that's my fun-filled Spring Break in L.A. (Louisville Area) =]

I went on college visits in St. Louis, Chicago, and South Bend, Indiana to Washington University, Northwestern University, Loyola University, and Notre Dame. Before and after getting really excited about college, my friends and I had a spa day complete with facials, pedicures, and a hot tub (for free because we did that at a friend's house : ] ), a bon fire in which we roasted marshmallows, and a movie night which included making homemade pizza and cookies!

I went to Melbourne, Florida to visit family. then i went to Dansville, Virginia to visit more family, some cousins I have never met before. We only got to the beach twice and went shopping everyday.

This spring break, I stayed here in Louisville. Although I wasn't laying out on a beach, I had so much fun with my friends (and I got some sun!). We went to Seneca Park a few times to hang out, swing, and get some exercise. Also, I went on a mini road trip up to Huber's Farm for lunch. But most of all, I enjoyed relaxing and not having very much to worry about!

This question was posed to some of our juniors recently as they began to register for their SENIOR YEAR of classes. Many thanks to Mrs. Deweese for sharing these responses with us!

In reflecting on your three years at Assumption, what has been your favorite class that you have ever taken and why?

My favorite class (so far) at Assumption has been Spanish 2 with Profe! We did hand motions (aka gestos) for all the vocab words and phrases, and I feel like I really learned and laughed a lot in that class. Runner-up would have to be Algebra 2 with Mr. Straub. Needless to say, I will NEVER forget the Quadratic formula after singing the song in front of the entire study hall. AP English with Dr. Wieland is a close third, and thankfully I'll get to spend another year as her pupil in Journalism/Newspaper. I wish both Profe and Mr. Straub were teaching the classes I'm taking next year, but in the words of my favorite elderly, leather-clad rocker, "You can't always get what you want, but you get what you need!"

My favorite class since coming to AHS would be (at this moment) Advanced US History. Most likely because History is the one subject I have no ill-will towards whatsoever. I learned SOOOO much in that class: how to take notes, how to study, how to manage quiz/test/hw ratios, etc.

My favorite class was freshman year of English. I had Mrs. Caswell and she made the stories and poems come alive. She inspired me to be a writer and now I want to major in Journalism communications.

There are so many amazing classes at Assumption! I really enjoy graphic design and my theatre classes!

My favorite class, so far, has been History of Rock and Roll. It is a very fun class and we get to learn about SOOO many different times. It's very interesting.

My favorite class over my first three years was humanities because it was a lot of fun.

My favorite class here has been Humanities II. It really let me show my creative side :)

My favorite class would have to be ceramics, because Ms. Wicke is really nice and I love to create different sculptures.
My favorite class has been Feminine Spirituality because it was fun and very open. We did many hands-on activities and it was interesting.

My favorite class has been AP 2D art, because I love making art and I love Mrs. Lott.

My favorite class ever in my years here is a toss up between world history with Mr. Young and world geography with Mrs. Adkins. These are my two favorite techers at Assumption. They are so fun and make everything interesting. I look up to these teachers and they teach the subject I enjoy the most which is social studies. The people in my classes were great as well. These are the best classes ever! Oh and who doesn't like ceramics!? I had so much fun and was so relaxed in this class as well!

My favorite class of all would have to be my art class. I love my AP drawing/painting class with Ms. Lott. She made it so much fun and a joy to come to her class every other day. I love this particular class because she gives you your main instructions on what to do but as of what exactly gets put onto your paper, it's all your decission. Another great factoer is that their are no deadlines. You can take your time and make it look the way you want it to look.

YEARBOOK with Ms. Russo. It is such a fun class!

My favorite class would have to be band. I've taken it every year and I still love it. It's a time to relax, but still do something you love. It's not necessarily a hard class, but you still get to expand as a musician. Plus, Mrs. Metry just makes the class. Haha!
My favorite class so far has been Leadership Education. It's been my favorite because the class helped me to expand my comfort zone and begin to feel more comfortable with speaking in front of crowds. As well, I learned a lot about myself and my abilities as a leader.

My favorite class has been yearbook because we have grown as a class and are all really excited to be J2's next year. We are also really excited for our journalism conference to D.C. next year.

My favorite class I've taken is Forensics Public Speaking. I liked this class because it was really laid back and was what got me interested in Speech Team.

My favorite class has been all math classes i love math and enjoy solving problems!!

Hmm...my favorite class so far would probably be english or art!

My favorite class was CST (Catholic Social eaching). I took it last semester and my eyes were opened to many issues in the community of Louisville and the world.

My favorite class I have taken in my past three years has been either Humanities or Chemistry II. Humanities was really fun becasue we got to do a lot of projects with art and music and I really thought that was enjoyable. Chemistry II is really a great class because we do a lot of demonstrations to help us learn about the topic more, and they're really interesting.
One of my all time favorite classes in the past two and a half years at AHS has been my A block PE class freshman year. It was so much fun and I made a lot of friendships during the first semester!!

My favorite class has been Advanced U.S. History because the group of girls got along and worked really well together. Ms. Deeley explained everything with exciting stories that we could actually understand. I also liked how she lectured and we took notes. Overall, I learned a lot from this class.

My favorite class that I have taken was Affective Skills. I had a really good group of girls in my class and it was so much fun. Also I looked forward to it !

My favorite class that I have taken so far is intro to sculpture.

My favorite class at Assumption was my acting 1 and 2 classes because they were not only really fun, but I learned a lot of skills I will need in the future, like thinking on my feet, and public speaking.

She always has a new activity for us to try out every single class period. She's made this class my favorite, along with the help of a few good friends that are in this class with me :)

My favorite class I've ever taken is humanities. It was really interesting and I learned a lot of stuff about famous buildings around the world that I should know...and Mrs. Adkins is really funny. I liked it so much that I'm taking humanities 2!

So my favorite class in all my 3 years at Assumption would have to be my choral music class which was second semester of sophomore year. I liked this class because I had a lot of my friends in it which made it enjoyable and just the class as a whole is fun.

My favorite class would either have to be History of Rock and Roll or Forensic Science. I loved both of them because they were both very interesting and I was friends with everyone in the class.

My favorite class I have ever taken was sophomore year Algebra 2 with Mr. Straub because we played so many fun games that really helped with the learning and Mr. Straub is just awesome! I also liked chamber choir sophomore year with Mrs. Metry because she is funny and cool and not to mention that we got to go to Disney World!

My favorite class that I have taken over my 3 years here is probably my ceramics class that I am taking right now. It is really fun and I love making all the different things out of clay.

12:30 Dismissals

About once a month (sometimes twice), Assumption dismisses at 12:30 p.m. On 12:30 days, lunch is not served, classes are shortened a bit, and the afternoon is yours to spend as you like while faculty meet for department and faculty meetings. Here is how some of our girls like to spend their 12:30 day afternoons...

Usually on 12:30 days I go out to lunch with my friends somewhere on Bardstown Road. It's so much fun to get out early and be able to relax after school. Plus you get more time on homework. ~Amanda

I somtimes go and grab coffee with my friend Jilian but my favorite thing to do is go work out at LAC because there is no one there and it gives me time to enjoy my exercise!

More on the Father-Daughter Dance...

As my friends and I walked into the Father Daughter dance Saturday night we were immediately overcome by a feel of hilarity that we made known by laughs and smiles. We quickly got into the mood of the dance as we moved up to the front of the gym. I got a really good feeling seeing the gym filled with girls dancing with their fathers. I cracked up as I looked to my side and saw Chloe and her dad in matching outfits. They both had on white button up shirts, suspenders, and black pants and they were boogying it up with each other. It was hilarious! The rest of the night was very enjoyable and my friends and I ended up being the last ones there. The live band added a unique touch to the dance that was unlike any I’d been to. It really was a night to remember!

Daddy/Daughter Dance

I went to the father-daughter dance and had a BLAST!!!! We went out to dinner with some of my friends and their dads before. Once we hit the dance floor, we never stopped. I taught my dad how to do the "Cupid Shuffle," "The Shopping Cart," and several other dance moves. He was very impressed, but I was even more amazed at his dance skills! We even participated in a conga line. The live band was awesome, and my dad and I were sore the next day from all of our dancing! We had so much fun and can't wait to go again next year!

Over the snow break I babysat my little cousin Leah all week! Leah loves to go around telling people that one day she'll be an Assumption girl with a ponytail. We watched Mary Kate and Ashley and The Wizard of Oz over and over again. =] ~Cara

We stayed at the Seelbach downtown, which was fun. They let you keep your pets with you so my cats have experienced the high life at the Seelbach. Sidney Noland, Abby Fieldhouse, and I also played a great game of catch phrase while at the Galt house (where Sidney stayed). Our power came back Saturday night and I went to church that Sunday. On my snow days, I kept warm at my grandma's, spent the night with my friends, and saw Wicked! I also drank a lot of hot chocolate. -Katie B.

I played in my yard (we have six acres) with my little sister and built a really pathetic snowman. My sister and I also played Guitar Hero everyday. We never lost power though. --Taylor

On the snow days we had, I went sleding in my back yard with my little sister. We also watched a lot of tv at my grandparents' house because our power was out. -Sarah

This is Kelsey and I would like to tell you what I did over the unexpected break. On the first day I went sledding in Seneca Park. We made a ramp that we would fly off of when we were going down (even though we wiped out a few times!). Then for the next two days my brother and I built an igloo. We packed snow into plastic containers and keept piling them on top of each other. It ended up being about five feet tall. After we were done building it we took water and colored it with color dye which we then took and colored our igloo. After that, Thursday and Friday night I sheltered the powerless. I went and saw a Taken Saturday which was amazing!!!! Then on Sunday I had a volleyball tournament all day. It was a wonderful, and fun break! It is one that I sure will never forget!! -Kelsey

Life is an adventure

A club I really enjoy right now is the Adventure Club. I am the president, after all! It's the most fun club, in my opinion. We try to have 1 meeting a semester because our adventures are our "meetings." I love this club because we actually get to go out and explore, have tons of fun, and have adventures. We went kayaking in September. We went hiking in October at Seneca Park. We're going paint balling in November! I'm super excited about paint balling, because I've never done that. And I had never done kayaking either, but I loved that! Last year, we went skiing and that was a blast! It was my first time skiing so it was a disaster because I kept falling, but other than that it was so fun. I think Adventure Club is very different from all the other clubs because we don't just meet and stay after school once a month; we get out and practice the reason we got into the club in the first place. Our t-shirts say, "Life's an adventure, why not join the club?" and I couldn't agree more!

Family Olympics

Last month, we celebrated with our families by having the first-ever Family Olympics competition. Tullamore…my family...were the gold medalist in the competition! Thanks to their team captain, who was none other then ME! All of the families worked extremely hard for this first annual Family Olympics. We held trials to find the most qualified team to represent each family before all meeting in the gym for a final run to see who would take the gold. The teams entered the gym with their families in the stands cheering for them! The captains led their teams to behind the different colored balloons that matched their fimily colors, and the volleyballs were then handed out to the front of each line. Over, under, over, under, and then back again was what needed to be done! If you dropped the ball, you had to start over again..and then they presented us with an extra obstacle (as if the pressure wasn’t enough) - we had to do this with only one hand! Long story short, Tullamore took the win and were awarded the gold medals in the final ceremony. This event was one of the most fun that I have ever had and I’m sure that anyone you ask will say the same!

WALK Kickoff!

Every year AHS has a walk to raise money for financial aid. Before the walk, we have a walk kickoff assembly to tell everyone the theme and to get pumped up for the walk. So this year the walk theme is..... ROCK THE WALK! I had no idea what the theme was, but I was excited to find out becuase the weeks preceding the walk we had been getting all these little cryptic gifts (rocks, guitar picks, pop rocks, etc.) in our homerooms. This year's walk kickoff was the best yet! We had glow necklaces and it was dark in the gym. The best part was that the teachers dressed up as famous rock bands. My old science teacher was Gene Simmons from KISS. Some of our counselors dressed up as the Beatles. Joan Jett was there, as well as Madonna, the Village People, the B-52's and many other rock legends. It was such a blast! I danced with my friends and we had a ball. Some other aspects of the walk are cool too. If you raise $100 or more, you're inducted into the 100 club and get special prizes for that. You get spirit wear days and are entered into drawings for fabulous prizes if you bring in donations. There are tons of other amazig incentives. This year's walk is going to be the best ever!

Every year at Assumption, we have a walk to raise money for financial aid, so every girl that wants to go to Assumption can. Our student council picks a theme and works really hard to get the school pumped up at our walk kick-off. This year, our theme is "Rock the Walk" and it was CRAZY! At the assembly, some of our amazing teachers dressed up as 80's rockers (I'm talking hair, make-up, clothing, everything!) and put on a concert for the whole school. We had performances by Kiss, the Beatles, Madonna, the Village People, and many more. The whole school was on their feet and ready to rock the walk in 2008! -Katie

Wacky Wednesdays

Every Wednesday at cross country practice, we have Wacky Wednesday where we dress up for a certain theme that the seniors pick. Then we run our warm up as a team in our costumes. This week the theme was super heroes and everyone dawned their capes and got their spidey senses tingling. Masks and tights were also worn. : ) We took lots of pictures and had a blast!

Being a Homeroom Mom

The start of my senior year brought me 26 kids. Okay, not literally, but I was chosen to be a homeroom mom. Each freshman homeroom has a "mom," who is a senior. That girl goes into homeroom every morning to help out the freshmen with whatever they might need and helps them adjust to life at Assumption. Being a mom, I have realized how much I truly love AHS. Each morning I get to joke around and talk to the freshman, creating a bond that not everyone gets to experience. I get to see how exciting everything is at AHS for the first time all over again. All of my "kids" are great, and we have so much fun together every morning. Some of my "kids" are becoming friends who I will see out at the mall and joke with them for a couple minutes, or a friend who I run with at cross country practice. Even inside the homeroom, we have a blast. This morning during homeroom, we all ate breakfast from Panera together, which was DELICIOUS! Every Wednesday we play a game called "Would You Rather Wednesday" where I ask them a question, and everyone votes on it. (Example: Would you rather date Michael Phelps or a Jonas Brother... That one was a toughie!) So even though homeroom at AHS seems to be the hardest part of the day for most, and some of my girls are still asleep when they walk in at 7:45, I still find a way to keep this part of the day alive and welcoming! --Cara

WOW!!! WOW!!!

Thank you and congratulations senior class on leading the way so all our girls felt free to embrace her inner Elvis, 80’s prom queen, blue eye shadow, pink painted pumps? (really…c’mon!), the best spice girl montage ever heard and so much more that I cannot even begin to explain. That was by far the best display of spirit, emotion, and love for your rocket sisters that I have witnessed since I have been here at Assumption. You have started something that is simply indescribable and contagious!

I even saw one ukulele that gave every string it had to help in the cheering, but the poor ukulele played its final song at the game…take a moment to honor said ukulele…sigh….We had some great freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in the rocket mascot firing up the crowd. The entire atmosphere was electric thanks to the phenomenal leadership you have shown. On behalf of the athletic department and the players who got to enjoy the crowds, I want to scream THANK YOU SENIORS! Please keep this going!

The volleyball team has huge home games against Sacred Heart on September 3rd and Mercy on September 9th.

The Field Hockey Mug Game is at AHS on Saturday, September 20.

The Cleat Game (a fan's perspective)

Last Sunday, AHS took on SHA in soccer. All the seniors wore pink and tailgated at Assumption before the game. Once arriving at Sacred Heart, it was non-stop cheering and some dancing to root on our rockets. We ran around the field waving our flag, and excited students wearing the rocket suit pumped up the crowd. Although they lost after a long, hard fought game, I had tons of fun cheering on AHS with all my friends! ~Katie

On Sunday, August 24, Assumption played Sacred Heart Academy in the soccer Cleat Game. The game is held annually and this year took place at Sacred Heart. Before the game, our whole varsity team went to one of the senior's house to eat, watch a movie, and mentally prepare for the game. It really helped us bond even more as a team. After these activities, we decorated cars and caravanned to the field. When we got there, tons of Assumption girls were dressed in all pink in the cheering section, dancing and going wild for our soccer team. It really pumped us up to know that we had an incredible audience behind us. We played really hard and responded well to the energy of the crowd. We ended up losing the game 2-0, but we fought hard until the very end. Even though we didn't get the result we had hoped for, I felt like we came together as a team more than ever this season. I know that I will have these memories with me forever. --Amanda

The AHS Walk

It is the beginning of the 2008/2009 school year and I already can’t wait for the AHS walk. The AHS walk is something the school does for financial aid students at Assumption. Everyone gets tickets to sell to people to enter in a contest for prizes. If they sell their 2 tickets, they get to ring a cowbell so the other homerooms can hear it. We have a goal we are trying to meet.
This is my sophomore year and it will be my second AHS walk. Last year's walk was the greatest experience for me. Because last year I started the school year out not knowing anyone here. I made some great friends to spend the walk with, and I'm going to spend this year’s walk with the same friends from last year and more! Last year I went to my friend Carra's house with some friends to have a sleep over. We did shirt decorating and lots of junk food eating. We played some fun games and mostly bonded and talked together. At first I was worried who I would spend the walk with since I didn’t really know anyone, but my new friends were so welcoming to me it still brings a smile to my face. So by the time we fell asleep it was pretty late and we were all tired and ready for the walk. The next day we all woke up and got ready for the walk. A few of us sprayed our hair with green undertones or streaks for freshman spirit. We put on our AHS walk shirts and capris. It took a little while to get us all in the car but soon enough we were on our way. First we all had to stop at McDonalds down the street of course for some breakfast. Then finally after that we made it to school.
The excitement all around the school was overwhelming. Everyone had crazy cool shirts and face painting. There were homerooms running up and down the hallways ringing the cow bells. It was a sight to see. Then everyone was called to the gym for a pep rally. Everyone was laughing and talking, and my friends and I were having so much fun. When the pep rally began it was so exciting. We were all really pumped for the walk. Then finally when everyone started to leave the gym it was time. Me and my friends stayed close together. It was the perfect day for it, not too hot. Then our walking began. None of us were sure how long of a walk it would be, but we were just having fun not even thinking about it. After a while we came to a table set up with cups of water to drink and then further along there were teachers spraying us with water guns! It was hilarious and refreshing. Eventually we realized we were coming to the end of the walk and close to the school. We were all a little sad that it was over but we still had food waiting in the cafeteria for us.
The AHS walk is one of my favorite Assumption events. I can't wait for this year's walk - it's going to be just as fun! ~Lynsey

Sisters for Life

There are many good things about going to an all girls school. I think the best thing about going to an all girls school is the bond and memories you make with your girlfriends. I remember even in gradeschool I thought I would never be closer to the girls in my class, but coming to AHS has shown me that. The bond that you make with the girls in your class is different than all the other relationships in your life. I love that AHS creates activities so that we can make our bonds and relationships grow even stronger. The one activity that I think really brings us all together as sisters is the annual walk. It gives us time to talk and be ourselves. We also like to dress up really crazy and act completely insane, but the best part about it is that we are doing it together. I have never once questioned weather I would be alone or unwanted, and AHS makes sure of it. I know that the bond that I share with the girls in my class will last for a long time and the memories will keep flowing. I couldnt thank AHS enough for supporting and encouraging all of us girls to grow not only bonds, but sisters for life. --Alex

New year...new opportunities

School has finally started! Usually, there’s a sense of dread about going back to school, but not here at Assumption. The sense of community is apparent as one walks through the doors. I remember as an incoming freshman being so nervous about what high school would hold for me. Would the people be nice? Would I find my way to classes? Would the food be better than it was in grade school? I had so many doubts and worries, but they were quickly removed as the upperclassmen welcomed me and the girls did everything in their power to make me feel at home here. Now as a senior, all my worries are gone and I am able to excel in this community. Assumption has really given me the chance to open new doors and, as cliché as it may seem, to spread my wings. The beginning of each year allows each girl here to remember just what Assumption holds for them: community and friends. With an exciting first few days spent in classes, liturgies, and family time, I once again was able to feel the love and excitement that this year holds. As a senior, I am more excited than ever to start a new year. I know that it will be my last here and that it must be valued. Summer may be over, but this year’s really just beginning. -Meaghan
